Location-GX Project

Using location data to achieve decarbonization and create business
LBMA Japan is a non-profit industry organization that promotes business, marketing, and services that utilize location data. We support the development of various policies that utilize location data, such as "people flow," which uses data to visualize people's movements, and "vehicle flow," which uses in-vehicle data to visualize car movements, and we work to enrich people's lives in the smart city society of the future.
In order to enrich people's lives, achieving "decarbonization" is a must in modern society. After considering what we can do in the location data industry, we came up with the idea that by visualizing and standardizing carbon emissions during travel, member companies and other companies can implement measures to encourage behavioral change in more people. With this in mind, we organized a committee of experts and created the "Location GX-Guidelines."

Speaker: Kuniyuki Kawashima, Representative Director, LBMA Japan
Summary of the guidelines:
Using AI and other technologies, location information, time (speed) is compared with the transportation routes on the map to calculate the best means of transportation.

For each mode of transportation, the amount of carbon emissions (g) per kilometer will be considered the "base value" and will be updated annually.

The calculation logic, methods, etc. are defined in the "L-GX Guidelines" published by our organization, which propose standard values for calculating carbon emissions related to transportation.

The "baseline" calculated for each service and business will be compared with the data after the implementation of measures such as the Deco-katsu Campaign, and the difference will be defined as the "transformation value" to calculate the amount of carbon reduction and the number of people whose behavior has changed as a result of the implementation of the measures.
* "Deco-katsu" is a national decarbonization movement led by the Ministry of the Environment.

It is important to promote decarbonization actions, but above all, it is important to implement them on an ongoing basis.
In today's business environment, if there is no economic rationality, decarbonization efforts will become a passing fad, making it difficult to sustain them.
Therefore, LBMA Japan will encourage each company to make continuous efforts by "clearly commercializing" mechanisms for promoting decarbonization in transportation.
The transformation value (reduction value) calculated using the common indicator is defined as "L-GX points."
We aim for these points to be recognized as a carbon neutral value equivalent to J Credits.
In the future, we aim to create a scheme whereby L-GX points can be sold as credits to other companies that require offset values.
