In this interview, we spoke with Mr. Ito and Mr. Kaneko of Pole To Win, a company that operates a BPO business based on game debugging, quality verification, and post monitoring, about the company's BPO business operations and outlook. Based primarily in Sapporo, the company handles a wide range of tasks, including call centers and POI information collection. They also spoke about how the collected data is delivered individually to each client and is not reused, managing it as strictly as personal information is handled, as well as an example of how they built a 100-person team using remote workers in a short period of time, and how they plan to deepen their knowledge in the location information and map fields and strengthen feedback to member companies.

A Savior in the Age of Labor Shortage! The Frontline of POI Data Collection and Utilization
POI (Point of Interest) data is gaining attention in the field of location data. We present a special conversation with Mr. Ito and Mr. Kaneko from Pole to Win, a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) company at the forefront of POI data collection and utilization.
What is the Core of the BPO Business?
First, we asked about BPO, the core of Pole to Win's business. BPO stands for "Business Process Outsourcing" and refers to the outsourcing of a company's business processes to external specialists. This ranges from back-office tasks such as customer support via email and phone, content editing and submission, to service operations.
In recent years, many Japanese companies have faced a serious labor shortage. With the 2024 problem and the increasing difficulty of handling all business processes in-house, demand for BPO, which utilizes external resources as needed and when needed, is rapidly growing. Pole To Win was one of the first to recognize this trend and provides strong behind-the-scenes support for client companies' service operations.
Particularly noteworthy is that one of Pole To Win's bases is located in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Sapporo's large population and numerous call centers already make it easy to secure personnel. This has enabled the company to establish a system for consistently providing high-quality BPO services.
POI Data Collection: Combining Analog and Digital
Pole To Win operates a wide range of BPO businesses, and location data-related services are one of its major pillars. Specifically, it collects POI data.
POI data refers to point-of-interest information for stores and facilities, including addresses, latitude and longitude, phone numbers, business hours, holidays, and service details. Because this information is updated rapidly due to factors such as store relocations and changes in business hours, it is important to keep it up to date.
Pole To Win places great importance on manual research when collecting and updating this POI data. While crawling technology is utilized in some areas, the data is ultimately verified by human eyes to ensure reliability. Currently, approximately 150 staff members nationwide are engaged in this work, providing highly accurate data thanks to their overwhelming manpower.
Summary
Pole to Win's BPO business goes beyond simple outsourcing; it also plays an important role in resolving the social issue of labor shortages. In particular, the collection and updating of POI data in the location data field combines human labor and technology to ensure data reliability and freshness.
Another key feature is our thorough, individualized approach, providing customized services for each client and ensuring data ownership remains with the client. This high level of security provides great reassurance to users, given the importance of POI data, which is treated similarly to personal information.
Going forward, we plan to enhance our ability to adapt to new technologies and services related to location and map information, contributing to the development of the entire industry. The role of BPO will become increasingly important in an era of labor shortages, and specialized providers like Pole to Win will likely become even more prominent.
